EGR valve frozen - stuck

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM monitors the EGR valve position based on the EGR position sensor signal. If the PCM detects any of the following conditions, the PCM determines that the EGR valve is frozen.
―  Signal does not change for 5 s or more with EGR valve open
―  Signal does not change even after 10 s have elapsed during operation from fully-closed position
―  Signal does not change for 4 s or more during operation from position except fully-closed position
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  EGR valve position sensor malfunction
•  PCM and/or EGR valve connector or terminal malfunction
•  Vent or damage in the wiring harness between EGR valve and PCM
•  Contaminate on EGR valve
•  EGR valve malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•  Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related service repair information availability.
•  Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED PENDING CODE AND/OR DTC
•  Switch the ignition to off, then to ON (engine off).
•  Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure and DTC Reading Procedure.
•  Is the following PENDING CODE/DTC also present?
―  P0403, P0405, P0406, P042E, P042F, P0488, P0489, P0490
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT EGR VALVE POSITION SENSOR
•  Inspect the EGR valve position sensor.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the EGR valve, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT PCM AND EGR VALVE CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Disconnect the PCM and all EGR valve connectors.
•  Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, corrosion).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector and/or terminals, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT THE WIRING HARNESS FOR VENT AND/OR DAMAGE
•  Inspect for vent and/or damaged in the wiring harness between EGR valve and PCM.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace malfunctioning part, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT EGR VALVE
•  Inspect the EGR valve for following:
―  Mechanical stuck
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Clean or replace the EGR valve, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT DTC P1412 TROUBLESHOOTING IS COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform the after repair procedure.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
