THERMOSTAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)]

Warning

• Never remove the cooling system cap or loosen the radiator drain plug while the engine is running, or when the engine and radiator are hot. Scalding engine coolant and steam may shoot out and cause serious injury. It may also damage the engine and cooling system.

• Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool. Even then, be very careful when removing the cap. Wrap a thick cloth around it and slowly turn it counterclockwise 2.5 turns. Step back while the pressure escapes.

• When you are sure all the pressure is gone, turn the cap using the cloth, and remove it.

EURO4 emission level

1. Remove the battery and battery tray. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

2. Remove the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO4 emission level)].)

3. Remove the fuel filter protector. (See FUEL FILTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

4. Set the fuel filter out of the way. (See FUEL FILTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

5. Remove the aerodynamic under cover No.2. (See AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER NO.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

6. Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

7. Remove in the order indicated in the table.

8. Install in the reverse order of removal.

9. Refill the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

10. Inspect for engine coolant leakage. (See ENGINE COOLANT LEAKAGE INSPECTION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

Coolant Reserve Tank Hose Removal Note (EURO4 emission level)

1. Perform the following steps to disconnect the coolant reserve tank hose.

(1) Remove the retainer in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.

(2) Pull the coolant reserve tank hose in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.

Bypass Hose Removal Note (EURO4 emission level)

1. Press and release the locking tang.

2. Disconnect the bypass hose.

Thermostat Housing Removal Note (EURO4 emission level)

1. Set the harness bracket under the battery bracket out of the way.

Coolant Reserve Tank Hose Installation Note (EURO4 emission level)

1. Perform the following steps to connect the coolant reserve tank hose.

(1) Install the retainer to the coolant reserve tank hose.

(2) Connect the coolant reserve tank hose to the thermostat housing with the retainer oriented as shown in the figure.

(3) Lightly pull and push the coolant reserve tank hose a few times by hand, and then verify that it is connected securely.

EURO5 emission level

1. Remove the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO5 emission level)].)

2. Remove the air cleaner and air hose component. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

3. Remove the battery and battery tray. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

4. Remove the aerodynamic under cover No.2. (See AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER NO.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5. Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

6. Remove in the order indicated in the table.

7. Install in the reverse order of removal.

8. Refill the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

9. Inspect for engine coolant leakage. (See ENGINE COOLANT LEAKAGE INSPECTION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)
