CRASH ZONE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Warning

•  Handling the crash zone sensor improperly can accidentally deploy the air bags and pre-tensioner seat belts, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the crash zone sensor. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS.) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS.)

1.  Switch the ignition off.

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. 3.  Remove the set plate. (See SET PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Remove the front bumper. (See FRONT BUMPER REMOVAL.)(See FRONT BUMPER INSTALLATION.)

5.  Remove the radar sensor. (with mazda radar cruise control (MRCC) system) (See RADAR UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

6.  Remove the nut.

7.  Move the cover in the order of arrows (1) and (2) shown in the figure and remove it.

8.  Remove the bolt.

9.  Disconnect the connector. (See Connector Disconnect Note.)

10.  Remove the crash zone sensor.

11.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

12.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

13.  Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.

•  If the air bag system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE].)

Connector Disconnect Note

1.  Press the area (1) indicated by the arrow and slide it as shown in the figure (2).

2.  Press the area (3) indicated by the arrow and disconnect the connector (4).
