OIL PUMP REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L3]

Warning
•  Remove and install all parts when the engine is cold, otherwise they can cause severe burns or serious injury.
•  A vehicle that is lifted but not securely supported on safety stands is dangerous. It can slip or fall, causing death or serious injury. Never work around or under a lifted vehicle if it is not securely supported on safety stands.
•  Continuous exposure to used engine oil has caused skin cancer in laboratory mice. Protect your skin by washing with soap and water immediately after working with engine oil.

1.  Remove the battery cover. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L3].)

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3.  Remove the under cover and splash shield as a single unit.

4.  Remove the front tire (RH).

5.  Drain the engine oil. (See ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT [LF, L3].)

6.  Remove the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L3].)

7.  Remove the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT [LF, L3].)

8.  Set the coolant reserve tank out of the way.

9.  Remove the A/C compressor with the pipes still connected. (See A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L3].)

10.  Remove the ignition coil. (See IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L3].)

11.  Remove the spark plug. (See SPARK PLUG REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L3].)

12.  Set the accelerator cable bracket out of the way.

13.  Remove the CKP sensor. (See CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L3].)

14.  Remove the engine front cover. (See TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L3].)

15.  Remove the oil pan. (See OIL PAN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [LF, L3].)

16.  Remove in the order indicated in the table.

17.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

18.  Refill the engine with the specified type and amount of the engine oil. (See ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT [LF, L3].)

19.  Start the engine and inspect for oil leakage.

•  If the oil leaks, specify the faulty part and repair or replace it.

20.  Inspect the oil level. (See ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION [LF, L3].)

21.  Inspect for the ignition timing and idle speed. (See ENGINE TUNE-UP [LF, L3].)

Oil Pump Sprocket Removal/Installation Note

1.  Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley and crankshaft pulley lock bolt to the crankshaft, and lock the oil pump against rotation as shown in figure.

2.  Remove/install the oil pump sprocket, and then remove the crankshaft pulley and crankshaft pulley lock bolt.

Tightening torque
20—30 N·m {2.1—3.0 kgf·m, 15.2—21.6 ft·lbf}


Oil Pump Installation Note

1.  Tighten the oil pump bolts in two steps in the order indicated in the figure.

Tightening torque:
1) 8—10 N·m {82—101 kgf·cm, 71—88 in·lbf}
2) 20—25 N·m {204—254 kgf·cm, 177—221 in·lbf}
