DETECTION CONDITION

• P1742: PCM detects malfunction in electrical, mechanical, or oil pressure system of torque converter clutch solenoid
• P1744: PCM detects slipping during full engagement of torque converter clutch

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• TCC solenoid malfunction
• TCC malfunction
• Transaxle internal malfunction
• PCM malfunction

VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY

• Verify related Service Bulletins and or/on-line repair information availability.
• Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY DTCS

• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position, then to the ON position.
• Verify the DTCs in the PCM memory.
• Are except DTCs P1742 and P1744 output?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

Torque converter clutch solenoid operation inspection

• Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2 and select the TCC PID.
• Using the WDS or equivalent, verify the operation status of the torque converter clutch solenoid while driving the vehicle.
• Is the operation of the torque converter clutch solenoid normal?
Yes
Replace the torque converter, then go to the next step.
No
Replace the solenoid body assembly, then go to the next step.

VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P1742 OR P1744 COMPLETED

• Make sure to reconnect all the disconnected connectors.
• Clear the DTC using the WDS or equivalent.
• Perform the "After Repair Procedure".
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY DTCS
• Are except DTCs P1742 and P1744 output?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
