Removal and Installation




Rear Side-Air Bag (Inflator) Module Removal and Installation

WARNING:

Failure to take proper precautions when performing service on the side-air bag (inflator) module can result in personal injury or non-activation of the air bag in the event of a collision.

- Never attempt to disassemble or repair an air bag (inflator) module. If any abnormality is found, replace the module with a new one.

, and Precautions on Disposal of Air Bag and Seat Belt Pretensioner Precautions on Disposal of Air Bag and Seat Belt Pretensioner:Advanced Air Bag
and follow all of the instructions provided.


Removal

Hatchback model

1) Disable air bag system. Refer to Disabling Air Bag System Disabling Air Bag System:Advanced Air Bag.
2) Remove rear seat back. Refer to Removal and Installation Rear Seat Removal and Installation.
3) Remove quarter lower rear trim. Refer to Service and Repair Floor Carpet Removal and Installation.
4) Remove quarter inner lower front cap (1) as shown in figure.





5) Remove bolts and remove rear side-air bag (1).





6) Disconnect rear side-air bag connector (1) as shown in figure.
a) Unlock lock button (2).
b) With lock button unlocked, disconnect connector.






Sedan model

7) Disable air bag system. Refer to Disabling Air Bag System Disabling Air Bag System:Advanced Air Bag.
8) Remove rear seat side back. Refer to Removal and Installation Rear Seat Removal and Installation.
9) Disconnect rear side-air bag connector (1) as shown in figure.
a) Unlock lock button (2).
b) With lock button unlocked, disconnect connector.





10) Remove nuts and remove rear side-air bag (1).






WARNING:

Failure to take proper precautions when handling and storing a live (non-deployed) air bag (inflator) module can result in personal injury due to accidental deployment of the air bag.

- Always carry a live air bag (inflator) module with the air bag's opening pointed away from you. Doing so will help reduce the chance of injury in case of accidental deployment of the air bag.
- Never carry an air bag (inflator) module by the wires or connector on the side of the module.
- Always place a live air bag (inflator) module with the bag (trim cover) side facing up when it is stored or left standing. Allowing for a free space above the module is essential to minimize the risk of personal injury in the event of accidental deployment of the air bag.

and follow all of the instructions provided.


Installation

Rear Side-Air Bag (Inflator) Inspection:Advanced Air Bag

Hatchback model

1) Connect rear side-air bag connector (1) as shown in figure.
a) Connect connector.
b) Lock connector with lock button (2).





2) Install rear side-air bag (1) at specified torque as shown.

Tightening torque
Rear side-air bag bolt (a): 10 Nm (1.0 kgf-m, 7.5 lbf-ft)





3) Install quarter inner lower front cap.
4) Install quarter lower rear trim. Refer to Service and Repair Floor Carpet Removal and Installation.
5) Install rear seat back. Refer to Removal and Installation Rear Seat Removal and Installation.
6) Enable air bag system. Refer to Enabling Air Bag System Enabling Air Bag System:Advanced Air Bag.

Sedan model

7) Install rear side-air bag (1) at specified torque as shown.

Tightening torque
Rear side-air bag nut (a): 12 Nm (1.2 kgf-m, 9.0 lbf-ft)
Rear side-air bag nut (b): 5.5 Nm (0.56 kgf-m, 4.0 lbf-ft)





8) Connect rear side-air bag connector (1) as shown in figure.
a) Connect connector.
b) Lock connector with lock button (2).





9) Install rear seat side back. Refer to Removal and Installation Rear Seat Removal and Installation.
10) Enable air bag system. Refer to Enabling Air Bag System Enabling Air Bag System:Advanced Air Bag.
