Tie Rod: Service and Repair

Fig.5 Tie Rod End Thread Requirements:





1. Raise and support vehicle then remove tire and wheel assembly.
2. Loosen tie rod adjustment sleeve locknut.
3. Loosen, do not remove, outer tie rod to steering arm nut.
4. Using tie rod remover tool No. MB990635, or equivalent, remove tie rod end from steering arm.
5. Remove tie rod from adjustment sleeve.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Inspect toe setting prior to tightening adjustment sleeve locknut.
b. Ensure maximum exposed thread requirements are not exceeded.
