1) Connect the scan tool.
2) Turn OFF the ignition switch for 30 seconds or more.
3) Start the engine.
4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Is a DTC set?
Yes
=>Go to Manual mode switch operation check.
No
Go to Intermittent conditions of automatic transmission.

1) Shift the selector lever to the M position.
2) Observe the Manual Mode Switch parameter on the scan tool. Does the Manual Mode Switch parameter show ON?
Yes
=>Go to Shift switch signal check.
No
=>Go to Manual select switch signal voltage check.
1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2) Disconnect the manual mode switch harness connector (C71).
Refer to "LHD Automatic Transmission" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).
Refer to "RHD Automatic Transmission" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).
3) Turn ON the ignition switch.
4) Observe the Up Shift Switch and Down Shift Switch parameters on the scan tool. Do the Up Shift Switch parameter or Down Shift Switch parameter show ON?
Yes
=>Go to Inspection for short to power supply in shift switch signal circuit.
No
=>Go to Selector lever replacement.
1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2) Disconnect the TCM harness connector (E7).
3) Connect a test lamp between the manual select switch signal circuit (pin 24 of E7) of the manual mode switch and the body ground.

Refer to "RHD Automatic Transmission" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).
4) Turn ON the ignition switch.
5) Operate the selector lever to the manual position. Does the test lamp illuminate?
Yes
=>Go to TCM harness connector inspection.
No
=>Go to Inspection for open circuit in manual select switch signal circuit.
1) Inspect the manual select switch signal circuit between the TCM (pin 24 of E7) and the manual mode switch (pin 2 of C71) for an open circuit or high resistance. Is the result normal?

=>Go to Inspection of manual mode switch harness connector.

1) Inspect the shift switch signal circuit showing ON between the TCM (pin 14 or 20 of E7) and the manual mode switch (pin 1 or 5 of C71) for a short to the power supply circuit. Is the result normal?

Repair the circuit as necessary.
