DTC C053C[62] Wheel Speed Sensor Signal Compare Failure (ABS/ESC)

1. Brake control system check

Refer to "54.Brake Control 4A.Troubleshooting(ABS/ESC) diagnostic System Check - Brake Controls".

2. Tire inspection

1) Inspect the tire for the following. Is the result normal?

  • Tire size
  • Air pressure
  • Uneven wear
  • Puncture
  • Disc wheel size

Refer to "2.Suspension 2D.Wheel, Tire System disc wheel and tire inspection".

Yes

=>Go to Wheel speed comparison inspection.

No

Repair the tires as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

3. Wheel speed comparison inspection

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Connect the scan tool.

3) Perform a test drive and compare the following parameters on the scan tool. Are the parameters of each wheel equal from low speed?

  • Front Left Wheel Speed
  • Front Right Wheel Speed
  • Rear Left Wheel Speed
  • Rear Right Wheel Speed

Yes

=>Go to Current DTC check.

No

=>Go to Wheel speed sensor inspection.

4. Wheel speed sensor inspection

1) Compare the wheel speeds, and if any wheel speed sensor has a different value than the others, referring to DTC C0031[2F], C0034[2F], C0037[2F], or C003A[2F], inspect the status of the wheel speed sensor. Is the result normal?

Refer to "54.Brake Control 4A.Troubleshooting(ABS/ESC) DTC C0034[2F] Front Right Wheel Speed Sensor Monitoring Data Failure".

Refer to "54.Brake Control 4A.Troubleshooting(ABS/ESC) DTC C0037[2F] Rear Right Wheel Speed Sensor Monitoring Data Failure".

Refer to "54.Brake Control 4A.Troubleshooting(ABS/ESC) DTC C003A[2F] Rear Left Wheel Speed Sensor Monitoring Data Failure".

Yes

=>Go to Exciter ring inspection.

No

Repair as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

5. Exciter ring inspection

1) Inspect the exciter ring for the following. Is the result normal?

Inspection items

  • There should be no damage from interference with the wheel speed sensor, etc.
  • There should be no deformation or eccentricity.
  • There should be no adhesion of large amounts of magnetic material, such as iron powder.
  • The garter spring should not coil itself around the exciter ring.

Yes

=>Go to Current DTC check.

No

Replace the exciter ring or remove the magnetic material.

Refer to "4.Brakes 4D.ABS front exciter ring removal".

Refer to "4.Brakes 4D.ABS front exciter ring installation".

Refer to "4.Brakes 4D.ABS rear exciter ring removal".

Refer to "4.Brakes 4D.ABS rear exciter ring installation".

Note

  • Because the exciter ring cannot be reused, always install a new one if it is removed.

=>Go to Repair verification.

6. Current DTC check

1) Clear the DTC with a scan tool.

2) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

3) Start the engine and drive at 25 km/h {16 mph} or more.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Is a DTC set?

Yes

=>Go to EHCU replacement.

No

=>Go to Repair verification.

7. EHCU replacement

Note

  • Perform programming after replacing the EHCU.

Procedure completion

=>Go to Repair verification.

8. Repair verification

1) Clear the DTC with a scan tool.

2) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

3) Start the engine and drive at 25 km/h {16 mph} or more.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool.
