Warning
•  Always wear gloves when using a utility knife. Using a utility knife with bare hands can cause injury.
Caution
•  If a door is opened or closed when all the door glass is fully closed, the resulting change in air pressure could cause the sealant to crack preventing the proper installation of the glass. Keep the door glass open until the rear window glass installation is completed.

Installation Procedure Selection

•  Select the procedure according to the following table because the rear window glass installation procedure differs depending on the positions of the rear window glass primer application marks and the shape of the liftgate press line.

Installation Procedure 1

1.  Remove sealant along the perimeter of the glass using a utility knife or scraper. (When reusing the glass)

2.  Clean and degrease an approx. 50 mm {2.0 in}wide strip along the perimeter of the glass.

3.  Inspect the glass for cracks. If it is cracked, chamfer it using sandpaper.

4.   Install the spacers and fasteners to the glass as shown in the figure.

Note
•  When reusing the glass, align it with the alignment mark placed before the glass was removed.

5.  Apply primer to the area of the glass shown in the figure.

•  Follow the primer product instructions for the drying time.
Caution
•  To prevent weakening of the primer adhesion, keep the bonding surface free of dirt, moisture, and grease. Do not touch the surface with your hand.

6.  Cut away the old sealant using a utility knife or scraper so that a 1—2 mm {0.04—0.07 in} thickness of sealant remains along the perimeter of the frame.

7.  Clean and degrease along the perimeter of the bonding area on the body.

8.  Apply primer to the area of the body shown in the figure.

•  Follow the primer product instructions for the drying time.
Caution
•  To prevent weakening of the primer adhesion, keep the bonding surface free of dirt, moisture, and grease. Do not touch the surface with your hand.

9.  Install the fasteners to the areas shown in the figure.

10.  Apply sealant to the area of the glass surface as shown in the figure.

11.  Install the rear window glass.

12.  Move the rear window defogger connectors in the order of arrows (1) and (2) shown in the figure and connect them.

13.  Install the following parts:

(1)  Glass antenna terminal cover (See DAB ANTENNA AMPLIFIER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(2)  Liftgate garnish (See LIFTGATE GARNISH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(3)  Outer bushing (See REAR WIPER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(4)  Rear wiper motor (See REAR WIPER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(5)  Rear wiper arm and blade (See REAR WIPER ARM AND BLADE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(6)  Rear spoiler (See REAR SPOILER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(7)  Liftgate lower trim (See LIFTGATE LOWER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(8)  Power liftgate rear switch (With power liftgate system) (See POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) REAR SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(9)  Liftgate recess (See LIFTGATE RECESS REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(10)  Liftgate side trim (See LIFTGATE SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(11)  Liftgate upper trim (See LIFTGATE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

14.  Verify that the clearance shown in the figure is within the standard.

15.  Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

16.  Allow the sealant to harden completely.

Note
•  Follow the product instructions for the sealant hardening time.

17.  Inspect the rear window defogger. (See REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER INSPECTION.)


Installation Procedure 2

1.  Apply masking paper to the position shown in the figure of the liftgate using masking tape and draw a guide line along the press line of the liftgate using a pencil.

2.  After placing the rear window glass, draw a guide line along the perimeter of the rear window glass using a pencil.

3.  Remove the rear window glass and then remove the masking paper from the liftgate.

4.  Cut along the guide line of the liftgate press line using scissors and separate the shaded area shown in the figure.

5.  Remove sealant along the perimeter of the glass using a utility knife or scraper. (When reusing the glass)

6.  Clean and degrease an approx. 50 mm wide strip along the perimeter of the glass.

7.  Inspect the perimeter of the glass for chips. If it is chipped, chamfer if using sandpaper.

8.  Install the spacers and fasteners to the glass as shown in the figure.

9.  Attach the pattern to the cabin side of the rear window glass, and then apply primer to the area shown in the figure.

•  Follow the primer product instructions for the drying time.

15.  Install the rear window glass.

16.  Move the rear window defogger connectors in the order of arrows (1) and (2) shown in the figure and connect them.

2.  Clean and degrease an approx. 50 mm {2.0 in}wide strip along the perimeter of the glass.

4.   Install the spacers and fasteners to the glass as shown in the figure.
