Outline
Malfunction symptom |
High voltage battery does not fully charge |
---|---|---|
Description
• The high voltage battery does not fully charge with normal charge.
• The high voltage battery does not fully charge with quick charge.
• After charging has completed (charge indicator illuminates in green), the high voltage battery power indication in the instrument cluster does not indicate fully charged status.
Possible cause
Charging timer setting:
• Charging timer setting is not set to full charge (normal operation)
Instrument cluster cannot display high voltage battery level correctly:
• Instrument cluster cannot receive high voltage battery level signal
• Instrument cluster malfunction
Power consumed exceeds power charged while high voltage battery is charging:
• Power consumption during charging is high
• Charging power amount is restricted
High voltage battery level is low when performing quick charge:
• High voltage battery level at start of quick charge is so low that battery cannot be fully charged in set quick charge time (normal operation)

Diagnostic Procedure
Step |
Inspection |
Results |
Action |
---|---|---|---|
1
VERIFY CHARGING TIMER SETTING
• Refer to the owner’s manual and verify the charging timer setting status.
• Is the charging timer set to full charge?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Set the charging timer to full charge and perform the repair completion verification.
2
VERIFY PCM, BATTERY CHARGE CONTROL MODULE, AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) DTCs
• Perform the DTC inspections for the following modules.
(See DTC INSPECTION.)
• Is a DTC displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
(See DTC TABLE [PCM (e-SKYACTIV)].)
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR MALFUNCTION
• Inspect the applicable part.
• Is the part normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
4
INSPECT HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY COOLING SYSTEM FOR MALFUNCTION
• Perform symptom troubleshooting [HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY DOES NOT COOL].
• Is the troubleshooting result normal?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part and perform the repair completion verification.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT BATTERY HEATER FOR MALFUNCTION
• Perform symptom troubleshooting [High voltage battery does not warm up].
• Is the troubleshooting result normal?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part and perform the repair completion verification.
No
Go to the next step.
6
INSPECT POWER CONSUMPTION CONDITION DURING CHARGING
• Inspect the following concerning the power consumption condition.
• Is the power consumption during charging high?
Yes
Explain to the customer that the power consumption during charging is high, and advise the customer on the climate control system temperature setting and electrical accessory usage during charging.
Perform the repair completion verification.
No
If the high voltage battery did not fully charge with quick charge, explain to the customer that the high voltage battery level at the start of quick charge was so low that the battery could not be fully charged in the set quick charge time.
Perform the repair completion verification.
Repair completion verification
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
• Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
• Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
Complete the symptom troubleshooting. (Explain repair contents to customer.)
No
Refer to the CAN (controller area network) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
