OIL PRESSURE INSPECTION [MZ-CD 1.6]

Warning

• Hot engines and engine oil can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it and the engine oil have cooled.

• A vehicle that is lifted but not securely supported on safety stands is dangerous. It can slip or fall, causing death or serious injury. Never work around or under a lifted vehicle if it is not securely supported on safety stands.

• Continuous exposure to USED engine oil has caused skin cancer in laboratory mice. Protect your skin by washing with soap and water immediately after working with engine oil.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

3. Remove the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

4. Remove the A/C compressor with the cooler hose still connected and secure it using wire or rope so that it is out of the way. (See A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

5. Remove the charge air cooler hose (inlet and outlet). (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

6. Remove the catalytic converter front insulator (upper), A/F sensor, catalyst exhaust gas temperature sensor No.1, No.2 and upper catalytic converter insulator. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

7. Remove the dipstick pipe. (See CYLINDER HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6].)

8. Remove the oil pressure switch.

9. Screw the commercially available oil pressure gauge into the oil pressure switch installation hole.

10. Install the dipstick pipe. (See CYLINDER HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6].)

11. Install the catalytic converter front insulator (upper), A/F sensor, catalyst exhaust gas temperature sensor No.1, No.2 and upper catalytic converter insulator. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

12. Install the charge air cooler hose (inlet and outlet). (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

13. Install the A/C compressor. (See A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

14. Install the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

15. Connect the negative battery cable.

16. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.

17. Run the engine at the specified speed, and note the gauge readings.

• If not within the specification, inspect for the cause and repair or replace if necessary.

Note

• The oil pressure can vary with oil viscosity and temperature.

Oil pressure (reference value) [oil temperature: 125°C {257°F}]

100—200 kPa {1.02—2.03 kgf/cm², 14.6—29.0 psi} [Idle speed]

230—370 kPa {2.35—3.77 kgf/cm², 33.4—53.6 psi} [2,000 rpm]

18. Stop the engine and wait until it is cool.

19. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

20. Remove the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

21. Remove the A/C compressor with the cooler hose still connected and secure it using wire or rope so that it is out of the way. (See A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

22. Remove the charge air cooler hose (inlet and outlet). (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

23. Remove the catalytic converter front insulator (upper), A/F sensor, catalyst exhaust gas temperature sensor No.1, No.2 and upper catalytic converter insulator. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

24. Remove the dipstick pipe. (See CYLINDER HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6].)

25. Remove the oil pressure gauge.

26. Apply Loctite 243 to the oil pressure switch.

27. Install the oil pressure switch with a new washer.

Tightening torque

30 N·m {3.1 kgf·m, 22 ft·lbf}

28. Install the dipstick pipe. (See CYLINDER HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6].)

29. Install the catalytic converter front insulator (upper), A/F sensor, catalyst exhaust gas temperature sensor No.1, No.2 and upper catalytic converter insulator. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

30. Install the charge air cooler hose (inlet and outlet). (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

31. Install the A/C compressor. (See A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

32. Install the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

33. Install the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

34. Connect the negative battery cable.

35. Start the engine and confirm that there is no oil leakage.

• If there is oil leakage, repair or replace the applicable part.
