DTC P2554

Fuel injection limitation - number of injection limited by fuel delivery quantity balance

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM calculates the number of fuel injections for each cycle based on the engine operation condition. If the calculated number of fuel injections (for each cycle) exceeds the upper limit which is determined to balance the fuel supply level on the high pressure side for a continuous 5 times, the PCM determines that there is a malfunction in the fuel injection control system.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Fuel pressure sensor or related circuit malfunction
•  Fuel injector or related circuit malfunction
•  Fuel metering valve or related circuit malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•   Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related service repair information availability.
•  Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
•   If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY RELATED PENDING CODE AND/OR DTC
•  Switch the ignition to off, then to ON (engine off).
•  Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure and DTC Reading Procedure.
•  Is the following PENDING CODE/DTC also present?
―  P0087, P0088, P0191, P0192, P0193, P0201, P0202, P0203, P0204, P0251, P0252, P0253, P0254, P1180, P1181, P1201, P1202, P1203, P1204, P1295, P1551, P1552, P1553, P1554
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.
4
INSPECT FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR SIGNAL
•  Inspect the fuel pressure sensor signal voltages at PCM terminal 219.
•  Is the signal voltage normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect fuel pressure sensor and related wiring harness.
Repair or replace malfunctioning part according to inspection result, then go to Step 6.
5
INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR AND FUEL METERING VALVE CONTROL SIGNALS
•  Inspect the following fuel injectors and fuel metering valve signal pulse profile by using an oscilloscope.
―  Terminal 101 and 118: fuel injector No.1
―  Terminal 110 and 126: fuel injector No.2
―  Terminal 109 and 125: fuel injector No.3
―  Terminal 102 and 117: fuel injector No.4
―  Terminal 212: fuel metering valve
•  Is the pulse profile normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
If the fuel injector control signal pulse profile is not normal, inspect the suspect fuel injector and related wiring harness.
If the fuel metering valve control signal pulse profile is not normal, inspect the fuel metering valve and related wiring harness.
Repair or replace malfunctioning part according to inspection result, then go to the next step.
6
VERIFY THAT DTC P2554 TROUBLESHOOTING IS COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
7
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform the after repair procedure.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
