Note
•  Perform the pilot bearing inspection with the crankshaft or flywheel installed.

1.  Remove the battery cover. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5, MZR 1.6].)

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5, MZR 1.6].)

3.  Remove the following parts:

(1)  Battery and battery tray (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5, MZR 1.6].)
(2)  Fresh-air duct and the air cleaner as a single unit (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)
(3)  Front tires (See GENERAL PROCEDURES (SUSPENSION).)
(4)  Splash shield (See SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(5)  Aerodynamic under cover No.2 (See AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER NO.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(6)  EGR pipe (intake manifold side)(European (L.H.D. U.K.) specs.)(See EGR PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5, MZR 1.6].)

4.  Drain the transaxle oil into a suitable container. (See TRANSAXLE OIL REPLACEMENT [F35M-R].)

5.  Remove the manual transaxle. (See MANUAL TRANSAXLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F35M-R].)

6.  Remove the clutch cover. (See CLUTCH UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F35M-R].)

7.  Remove the clutch disk. (See CLUTCH UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F35M-R].)

8.  Remove the flywheel. (See CLUTCH UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F35M-R].)

Note
•  Correct slight scratches and discoloration using sandpaper.

•  Inspect the runout of the surface that contacts the clutch disc with the flywheel installed to the crankshaft.

9.  Inspect the surface that contacts the clutch disc for scratches, nicks, and discoloration.

10.  Inspect the ring gear teeth for damage and wear.

11.  Measure the flatness of the flywheel with a straight edge and a feeler gauge.

•  If there is any malfunction, replace the flywheel. (See CLUTCH UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F35M-R].)
Maximum clearance of flatness of the flywheel
0.06 mm {0.002 in}

12.  Install the flywheel. (See CLUTCH UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F35M-R].)

13.  Measure the runout of the surface that contacts the clutch disc using a dial gauge.

Flywheel maximum runout
0.1 mm {0.004 in}
•  If it exceeds the maximum specification, replace the flywheel. (See CLUTCH UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F35M-R].)

14.  Install in the reverse order removal.

15.  Add the specified amount of specified transaxle oil. (See TRANSAXLE OIL REPLACEMENT [F35M-R].)

Note
•  If the transaxle is overhauled and installed to the vehicle, perform the "INSPECTION AFTER TRANSAXLE INSTALLATION" and verify that there is no abnormality. (See INSPECTION AFTER TRANSAXLE INSTALLATION [F35M-R].)
