Sound distorts or it is too loud, or noise occurs

POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Radio wave interference from a commercially-available electrical device (such as radio set, TV, car-navigation, or mobile phone)
•  Improper installation of speaker
•  Door trim vibration
•  Speaker malfunction (such as foreign matter adhering, damage)
•  Noise occurring from vehicle electrical device (such as generator)
•  Car-navigation unit malfunction

VERIFY MALFUNCTION SYMPTOM
•  Verify the malfunction symptom in all modes.
•  Does the malfunction occur in only radio mode?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 5.

VERIFY RECEPTION CONDITION
•  Tune radio frequency to a local radio station and verify the reception condition.
•  Is the reception condition normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Move the vehicle to a good reception area and verify the malfunction symptom.

VERIFY LOCATION WHERE MALFUNCTION OCCURS
•  Can the location where the malfunction occurs be specified?
Yes
System is normal (explain to the customer that the noise is caused by radio wave interference or external broadcast wave conditions).
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS ANTENNA
•  Inspect the antenna feeder and antenna amplifier.
•  Are the antenna feeder and antenna amplifier normal?
Yes
Go to Step 10.
No
Replace the malfunctioning part.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS MUSIC DEVICE
•  Replace the music device such as a USB device or iPod with a music device not used when the malfunction occurred.
•  Has the malfunction been eliminated?
Yes
Explain to the customer that the cause is the music device such as a UBS device or iPod.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY SPEAKER INSTALLATION CONDITION
•  Inspect the speaker installation condition.
•  Is the installation condition normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair the speaker installation.

VERIFY SPEAKER
•  Remove the speaker.
•  Is there foreign matter penetration, adhering, or damage to the speaker?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning location.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS DOOR TRIM VIBRATION
•  Verify the sound distortion with the speaker removed.
•  Is there sound distortion?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect for vibration from the door trim. If vibration occurrence can be verified, repair or replace the malfunctioning part.

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS SPEAKER
•  Replace (replace left and right speakers) with speakers having no distortion and verify the malfunction symptom.
•  Does the sound distortion occur from the speaker at the same location before the replacement?
Yes
Replace the car-navigation unit.

No
Replace the speaker.

VERIFY IF COMMERCIALLY-AVAILABLE ELECTRICAL DEVICE IS INSTALLED
•  Has a commercially-available electrical device (such as radio set, TV, car-navigation, or mobile phone) been installed
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 13.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS COMMERCIALLY-AVAILABLE ELECTRICAL DEVICE
•  Remove the installed electrical device.
•  Turn the car-navigation unit power on and verify the reception condition again.
•  Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
The system is normal (explain to the customer that the cause is the commercially-available electrical device).
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS VEHICLE ELECTRICAL DEVICE
•  Does a malfunction occur while a vehicle electrical device such as the generator is operating?
Note
•  Remove the fuse and specify the electrical device in which noise occurs when switched on/off or connector insertion/removal.
Yes
Replace the electrical device which a malfunction occurs.
No
Replace the car-navigation unit.
