Function
Engine speed signal is supplied at terminal 28 of control module for Diesel-Direct fuel injection system. The signal is required, among other things, by automatic transmission control module to calculate shift points and for tachometer in instrument panel insert.

Special tools and equipment
- V.A.G1598/31 test box
- V.A.G1594 connector test kit
- V.A.G1526 multimeter or V.A.G1715 multimeter
- Wiring diagram

Test sequence
- Connect test box to control module wiring harness, connect test box for wiring test. Test Box, Connecting For Wiring Test
- Connect adapter cable (V.A.G 1598/39-1) to test box (V.A.G 1598/42).
- Check for open circuit/short circuit in wire connection between test box socket 28 and instrument panel insert according to wiring diagram.

Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms
