DTC C0040[12] Stop Lamp Switch Circuit Short to Battery (Wireless Access Module (Hi-version [Passive Entry and Start System]))

1. Wireless access module system check

Refer to "71.Security and Locks Control 10S.Troubleshooting(Wireless Access Module (Hi-version [Passive Entry and Start System])) Diagnostic system check-Wireless Access Module (Hi-version[Passive Entry and Start System])".

2. Current DTC check

1) Connect the scan tool.

2) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Is a DTC set?

Yes

=>Go to Inspection for short to power supply in stoplight switch signal circuit.

No

Go to Intermittent conditions of wireless access module.

Refer to "229.Security and Locks Control 42D.Symptom intermittent conditions of wireless access module".

3. Inspection for short to power supply in stoplight switch signal circuit

1) Inspect the signal circuit between the wireless access module (pin 30 of B14) and the stoplight switch (pin 2 of C68) for a short to the battery power supply circuit or a short to the ignition power supply circuit. Is the result normal?

Refer to "RHD Power Door Locks (Wireless Access Module (Hi-version))" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Yes

=>Go to Stoplight switch harness connector inspection.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

4. Stoplight switch harness connector inspection

1) Inspect for poor connections at the stoplight switch harness connector (pins 1 and 2 of C68). Is the connection status normal?

Refer to "LHD Power Door Locks (Wireless Access Module (Hi-version))" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Refer to "RHD Power Door Locks (Wireless Access Module (Hi-version))" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Yes

=>Go to Stoplight switch inspection.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

5. Stoplight switch inspection

1) Inspect the stoplight switch for the following. Is the result normal?

  • Installation status and damage

Refer to "4.Brakes 4B.Brake System stoplight switch inspection".

Yes

=>Go to Wireless access module harness connector inspection.

No

Replace the stoplight switch.

Refer to "4.Brakes 4B.Brake System stoplight switch removal".

Refer to "4.Brakes 4B.Brake System stoplight switch installation".

=>Go to Repair verification.

6. Wireless access module harness connector inspection

1) Inspect for poor connections at the wireless access module harness connector (pin 30 of B14). Is the connection status normal?

Refer to "LHD Power Door Locks (Wireless Access Module (Hi-version))" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Refer to "RHD Power Door Locks (Wireless Access Module (Hi-version))" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Yes

=>Go to Wireless access module replacement.

No

Repair the connections as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

7. Wireless access module replacement

Note

  • After replacing the wireless access module, programming must be performed.

Procedure completion

=>Go to Repair verification.

8. Repair verification

1) Clear the DTC with a scan tool.

2) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the Stop Lamp Switch Input parameter on the scan tool. Does the Stop Lamp Switch Input parameter show ON when the brake pedal is depressed and OFF when released?

Yes

Observe the DTC information with a scan tool.

No

=>Go to Inspection for short to power supply in stoplight switch signal circuit.
