OIL PRESSURE INSPECTION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)]

Warning

• Hot engines and engine oil can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it and the engine oil have cooled.

• A vehicle that is lifted but not securely supported on safety stands is dangerous. It can slip or fall, causing death or serious injury. Never work around or under a lifted vehicle if it is not securely supported on safety stands.

• Continuous exposure to USED engine oil has caused skin cancer in laboratory mice. Protect your skin by washing with soap and water immediately after working with engine oil.

1. Remove the battery cover. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3. Remove the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO4 emission level)].) (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO5 emission level)].)

4. Remove the aerodynamic under cover No.2. (See AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER NO.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5. Remove the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO4 emission level)].) (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO5 emission level)].)

6. Remove the A/C compressor with the cooler hose still connected and secure it using wire or rope so that it is out of the way. (See A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

7. Remove the charge air cooler hose (inlet) and air pipe. (EURO4 emission level) (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

8. Remove the charge air cooler hose (inlet and outlet). (EURO5 emission level) (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

9. Remove the exhaust gas temperature sensor and catalyst converter front insulator. (EURO4 emission level) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

10. Remove the catalytic converter front insulator, A/F sensor, exhaust gas temperature sensor and catalytic converter upper insulator. (EURO5 emission level) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

11. Remove the dipstick pipe. (EURO5 emission level) (See CYLINDER HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO5 emission level)].)

12. Remove the oil pressure switch.

13. Screw the commercially available oil pressure gauge into the oil pressure switch installation hole.

14. Install the dipstick pipe. (EURO5 emission level) (See CYLINDER HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO5 emission level)].)

15. Install the exhaust gas temperature sensor and catalyst converter front insulator. (EURO4 emission level) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

16. Install the catalytic converter front insulator, A/F sensor, exhaust gas temperature sensor and catalytic converter upper insulator. (EURO5 emission level) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

17. Install the charge air cooler hose (inlet) and air pipe. (EURO4 emission level) (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

18. Install the charge air cooler hose (inlet and outlet). (EURO5 emission level) (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

19. Install the A/C compressor. (See A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

20. Install the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO4 emission level)].) (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO5 emission level)].)

21. Connect the negative battery cable.

22. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.

23. Run the engine at the specified speed, and note the gauge readings.

• If not within the specification, inspect for the cause and repair or replace if necessary.

Note

• The oil pressure can vary with oil viscosity and temperature.

Oil pressure (reference value)

100—200 kPa {1.02—2.03 kgf/cm², 14.6—29.0 psi} [750 rpm (Idle speed)]

230—370 kPa {2.35—3.77 kgf/cm², 33.4—53.6 psi} [2,000 rpm]

24. Stop the engine and wait until it is cool.

25. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

26. Remove the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO4 emission level)].) (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO5 emission level)].)

27. Remove the A/C compressor with the cooler hose still connected and secure it using wire or rope so that it is out of the way. (See A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

28. Remove the charge air cooler hose (inlet) and air pipe. (EURO4 emission level) (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

29. Remove the charge air cooler hose (inlet and outlet). (EURO5 emission level) (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

30. Remove the exhaust gas temperature sensor and catalyst converter front insulator. (EURO4 emission level) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

31. Remove the catalytic converter front insulator, A/F sensor, exhaust gas temperature sensor and catalytic converter upper insulator. (EURO5 emission level) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

32. Remove the dipstick pipe. (EURO5 emission level) (See CYLINDER HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO5 emission level)].)

33. Remove the oil pressure gauge.

34. Install the oil pressure switch with a new gasket.

Tightening torque

30 N·m {3.1 kgf·m, 22 ft·lbf}

36. Install the exhaust gas temperature sensor and catalyst converter front insulator. (EURO4 emission level) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

37. Install the catalytic converter front insulator, A/F sensor, exhaust gas temperature sensor and catalytic converter upper insulator. (EURO5 emission level) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

38. Install the charge air cooler hose (inlet) and air pipe. (EURO4 emission level) (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

39. Install the charge air cooler hose (inlet and outlet). (EURO5 emission level) (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)

40. Install the A/C compressor. (See A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

41. Install the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO4 emission level)].) (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO5 emission level)].)

42. Install the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO4 emission level)].) (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6) (EURO5 emission level)].)

43. Connect the negative battery cable.

44. Start the engine and confirm that there is no oil leakage.

• If there is oil leakage, repair or replace the applicable part.

45. Install the aerodynamic under cover No.2. (See AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER NO.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

46. Install the battery cover. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6 (Y6)].)
