Brake system warning light stays on more than 4 s with switch the ignition to ON (Parking brake is released)

POSSIBLE CAUSE

•  Malfunction of instrument cluster or ABS HU/CM •  Improper brake switch signal input to PCM (Vehicles without malfunction warning light, applied VIN (assumed):GH1***429761—, GH1***-442043—, GH10**-206766—, GH10**-210449—, GH****-210421—, GH1***-442043—, GH1***-442043—, GH10**-210449—) •  Short to ground in circuit in parking brake switch and/or brake fluid level sensor •  Parking brake switch or brake fluid level sensor stuck on. •  Short to ground in the following circuit ―  Between parking brake switch and BCM ―  Between brake fluid level sensor and BCM

Diagnostic procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL •  Inspect the brake fluid level. •  Is the brake fluid level normal?	Yes	Vehicles without malfunction warning light, applied VIN (assumed):GH1***429761—, GH1***-442043—, GH10**-206766—, GH10**-210449—, GH****-210421—, GH1***-442043—, GH1***-442043—, GH10**-210449— Go to the next step. Others Go to step 4.
		No	Go to step 3.
2	INSPECT PCM DTC •  Retrieve the PCM DTC using the M-MDS. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZR 1.8, MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5].) (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [MZR 2.0 DISI].) •  Is the DTC P0571:00 and/or P0703:00 present?	Yes	Go to the applicable DTC inspection. (See DTC P0571:00 [MZR 1.8, MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5].) 		No	Go to the next step.
3	INSPECT BRAKE LINE FOR LEAKAGE •  Inspect the brake line for leakage. •  Is the brake fluid leaked?	Yes	Repair or replace the leakage part. Refill the brake fluid specified level.
		No	Refill the brake fluid specified level.
4	INSPECT WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT RELATED SWITCHES OR ELSEWHERE •  Inspect the following parts for continuity: ―  Parking brake switch (See PARKING BRAKE SWITCH INSPECTION.) ―  Brake fluid level sensor (See BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR INSPECTION.) •  Is the continuity condition normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Replace the malfunctioning part. (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (See MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D.].) (See MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [R.H.D.].)
*5	INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN BCM AND BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT RELATED SWITCHES •  Inspect for short to ground in the following circuit: ―  Between parking brake switch and BCM terminal 8A ―  Between brake fluid level sensor and BCM terminal 1Q •  Is the short to ground detected?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to ground.
		No	Go to the next step.
6	INSPECT WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OR BCM •  Release the parking brake. •  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2. •  Turn off all warning lights and indicator lights using the instrument cluster PID WL+IL of active command modes. (See ACTIVE COMMAND MODES INSPECTION [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER].) •  Does the brake system warning light stay on?	Yes	Replace the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
		No	Replace the BCM. (See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
