•  The controls related to the PCM are as follows.

Control item

Control description

EV system output control
Drive force control
•  The PCM calculates the output requested by the driver and the output according to the vehicle conditions and sends an electric motor drive torque request signal to the drive motor control module.
Inverter control
•  The PCM drives the power transistors in the inverter through the drive motor control module to achieve the required electric motor torque calculated from the vehicle conditions. As a result, the electric motor is driven and power is generated according to the vehicle conditions.
•  The PCM not only controls the high voltage battery contactors to cut off the high voltage circuit when the EV system is stopped by the normal power switch operation or when the airbag deployment signal is received from the SAS control module, but it also assures the safety of the high voltage circuit by driving power transistors of all phases and consuming (discharging) the power using the electric motor.
Electric G-vectoring control plus (e-GVC Plus)
•  The electric G-vectoring control plus (e-GVC Plus) controls the electric motor during steering wheel operation and controls the yaw momentum during steering wheel return operation to provide smooth cornering and a comfortable ride, and it enhances steering stability on slippery road surfaces to achieve a high sense of driving safety.
High voltage circuit start/cut off control
•  The PCM connects and cuts off the high voltage circuit by turning the 3 high voltage contactors on and off to assure the safety of the high voltage parts.
Auxiliary device power charging system
•  The PCM prevents lead-acid battery depletion by charging it with the high voltage battery power if the lead-acid battery power may decrease due to frequent activation of the vehicle's electrical devices while the main power is switched OFF.
DC-DC converter control
•  The PCM reduces the voltage of the high voltage battery (355 V DC) to 14 V DC through the DC-DC converter to supply power to the 12 V system and charge the lead-acid battery.
Electronically controlled brake cooperation control
•  The PCM coordinates with the electronically controlled brake unit to control the kinetic energy during braking so that it can be recovered to the maximum extent as electrical energy. The PCM sends the actual regenerative braking value to the electronically controlled brake unit, and the electronically controlled brake unit calculates the required hydraulic braking force and controls the braking force.
Battery monitoring system
•  The PCM monitors the high voltage battery based on the signal from the BECM and also controls the efficient use of the high voltage battery.
High voltage battery charging control
•  When charging the high voltage battery, it is necessary to pay attention to the safety of the high voltage circuit, the prevention of high voltage battery deterioration, and the charging efficiency. For this reason, the PCM controls the charging according to the vehicle conditions and the high voltage battery.
Charge indicator control
•  When charging the high voltage battery, the door lock status does not allow the user to easily check the charge status. The PCM makes it easy for the user to check the charging status by displaying the charging status using the charge port lid indicator through the charge port-electrical supply unit during charging.
Charge port illumination control
•  The PCM turns the charge port illumination on/off through the charge port-electrical supply unit according to the open/closed status of the charge port lid. As a result, the visibility of the charging port when charging in dark places, such as at night, is improved.
Charge connecter lock actuator control
•  When the charge cable is connected, the PCM locks the charge cable to the charge connector of the vehicle through the charge port-electrical supply unit. As a result, dropping of the charging cable during charging is prevented.
Battery heater control
•  The high voltage battery has significantly reduced charging and discharging performance in extremely cold environments which affects driving performance. The PCM warms the high voltage battery to the appropriate temperature by controlling the battery heater at extremely low temperatures. As a result, the charge/discharge performance of the high voltage battery at extremely low temperatures is assured.
High voltage battery cooling control
•  The high voltage battery generates heat and becomes hot when charged and discharged. In addition, if a high temperature condition continues, the high voltage battery will largely deteriorate.
•  When the high voltage battery is hot, the PCM requests the heat pump unit to perform cooling until the high voltage battery temperature decreases to an appropriate level using the refrigerant used for the climate control system.
Electric water pump control
•  During operation, the high voltage parts of the EV system generate heat due to high voltage charging and discharging and become hot. For this reason, the PCM maintains the appropriate operating temperature for the high voltage parts by driving the electric water pump to circulate coolant to the high voltage parts.
Cooling fan control
•  The PCM rotates the cooling fan according to the vehicle conditions for improved reliability and cooling/heating performance of the EV system.

Construction

•  The PCM is installed to the foot well of the passenger’s seat.
•  The PCM has adopted a 114-pin (1 block) connector.
