Determination procedure

Caution
•  When disconnecting the connector, verify that there is no looseness, damage, deformation, corrosion, or poor connection of the connector terminals.
•  When inspecting the DLC-2, touch it with a paper clip or similar thin pin without directly inserting a tester into the terminals.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN BCM AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Disconnect connector 1 which has the BCM 1A and 1B terminals.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
―  Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 16.

INSPECT CAN LINE INSIDE BCM FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect connector 2 which has the BCM 2A and 2B terminals.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
―  Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the BCM because there is a short to ground in the BCM.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-17 AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
•  Disconnect connector C-17.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
―  Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-17 AND REAR VEHICLE MONITORING CONTROL MODULE (RH)
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between rear vehicle monitoring control module (RH) terminal L and body ground
―  Between rear vehicle monitoring control module (RH) terminal I and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the BCM and connector C-17 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN REAR VEHICLE MONITORING CONTROL MODULE (RH) AND CONNECTOR C-24
•  Disconnect connector C-24.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between rear vehicle monitoring control module (RH) terminal L and body ground
―  Between rear vehicle monitoring control module (RH) terminal I and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-17 and connector C-24 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN REAR VEHICLE MONITORING CONTROL MODULE (RH) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the rear vehicle monitoring control module (RH) connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between rear vehicle monitoring control module (RH) terminal L (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between rear vehicle monitoring control module (RH) terminal I (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between rear vehicle monitoring control module (RH) and connector C-24 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the rear vehicle monitoring control module (RH) because there is a short to ground in the rear vehicle monitoring control module (RH).

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-43 AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
•  Disconnect connector C-43.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
―  Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to Step 11.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN AFS CONTROL MODULE AND CONNECTOR C-43
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between AFS control module terminal B and body ground
―  Between AFS control module terminal A and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 10.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN AFS CONTROL MODULE FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the AFS control module connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between AFS control module terminal B (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between AFS control module terminal A (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the AFS control module and connector C-43 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the AFS control module because there is a short to ground in the AFS control module.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN SAS CONTROL MODULE FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the SAS control module connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between SAS control module terminal 3K (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between SAS control module terminal 3L (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the SAS control module and connector C-43/connector-17 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the SAS control module because there is a short to ground in the SAS control module.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-47 AND DLC-2
•  Disconnect connector C-47.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
―  Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-47 and DLC-2 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE AND CONNECTOR C-47
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between keyless control module terminal 2K and body ground
―  Between keyless control module terminal 2L and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 14.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the keyless control module connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between keyless control module terminal 2K (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between keyless control module terminal 2L (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the keyless control module and connector C-47 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the keyless control module because there is a short to ground in the keyless control module.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND CONNECTOR C-47
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Instrument cluster terminal 2B and body ground
―  Instrument cluster terminal 2D and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-43 and connector C-47 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between instrument cluster terminal 2B (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between instrument cluster terminal 2D (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the instrument cluster and connector C-47 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the instrument cluster because there is a short to ground in the instrument cluster.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-41 AND BCM
•  Connect connector 1 which has BCM terminals 1A and 1B.
•  Disconnect connector C-41.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
―  Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness because the wiring harness is shorted to ground between connector C-41 and the BCM.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN DSC HU/CM OR ABS HU/CM AND CONNECTOR C-41
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between DSC HU/CM terminal M and body ground (DSC vehicle)
―  Between DSC HU/CM terminal J and body ground (DSC vehicle)
―  Between ABS HU/CM terminal H and body ground (ABS vehicle)
―  Between ABS HU/CM terminal L and body ground (ABS vehicle)
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 19.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN DSC HU/CM OR ABS HU/CM FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect DSC HU/CM or ABS HU/CM connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between DSC HU/CM terminal M (wiring harness side) and body ground (DSC vehicle)
―  Between DSC HU/CM terminal J (wiring harness side) and body ground (DSC vehicle)
―  Between ABS HU/CM terminal H (wiring harness side) and body ground (ABS vehicle)
―  Between ABS HU/CM terminal L (wiring harness side) and body ground (ABS vehicle)
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between DSC HU/CM or ABS HU/CM and connector C-41 because there is a short to ground in the wiring harness .
No
Replace the DSC HU/CM or ABS HU/CM because there is a short to ground in the DSC HU/CM or ABS HU/CM.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTORS C-02 AND C-41
•  Connect connector C-41.
•  Disconnect connector C-02.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
―  Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
•  For the MZR 2.0, MZR 2.5, MZR 2.3 DISI Turbo, MZR 1.6, and MZ-CD 1.6, go to Step 21.
•  For the SKYACTIV-G 2.0, go to Step 22.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN EHPAS CONTROL MODULE FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the EHPAS control module connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between EHPAS control module terminal 2D (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between EHPAS control module terminal 2B (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the EHPAS control module and connector C-41/connector C-02 because there is short to ground in the wiring harness .
No
Replace the EHPAS control module because there is a short to ground in the EHPAS control module.

INSPECT CAN-RELATED MODULES FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Connect connector C-02.
•  Verify the continuity between the following terminals while removing the PCM and TCM one by one.
―  Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
―  Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the PCM and TCM/connector C-02 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the module in which there was no continuity when it was removed.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN TCM AND CONNECTOR C-02
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between TCM terminal 1E and body ground (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)
―  Between TCM terminal 1F and body ground (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 24.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN TCM FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the TCM connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between TCM terminal 1E (wiring harness side) and body ground (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)
―  Between TCM terminal 1F (wiring harness side) and body ground (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the TCM and connector C-02 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the TCM because there is a short to ground in the TCM.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN PCM FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the PCM connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between PCM terminal 2AK (wiring harness side) and body ground (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)
―  Between PCM terminal 2AL (wiring harness side) and body ground (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the PCM and connector C-02 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground .
No
Replace the PCM because there is a short to ground in the PCM.
