DTC U0046[88] CAN Communication Malfunction (CAN 4 Bus Off) (Central GateWay)

Note

  • The installed devices vary depending on the vehicle. All the devices that may be connected to the CAN communication circuit are shown in the diagnostic procedure. Perform diagnosis only for the applicable device procedure.

1. Body control system check

Refer to "64.Body Control 10I.Troubleshooting(Central GateWay) diagnostic system check - central gateway controls".

2. Current DTC check

1) Connect the scan tool.

2) Turn ON the ignition switch.

3) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Is a DTC set?

Yes

=>Go to ECM inspection.

No

Go to Intermittent conditions of body control system.

3. ECM inspection

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the ECM harness connector (C9 for 4JJ3 engine models, C7 for RZ4E engine models).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool for DTC U0046[88] being set as a current failure. Is a DTC set?

Yes

=>Go to Battery sensor inspection.

No

=>Go to ECM replacement.

4. Battery sensor inspection

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the battery sensor harness connector (C49).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool for DTC U0046[88] being set as a current failure. Is a DTC set?

Yes

=>Go to Rear differential lock control unit inspection.

No

=>Go to Battery sensor replacement.

5. Rear differential lock control unit inspection

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the rear differential lock control unit harness connector (C57).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool for DTC U0046[88] being set as a current failure. Is a DTC set?

Yes

=>Go to TCCM inspection.

No

=>Go to Rear differential lock control unit replacement.

6. TCCM inspection

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the TCCM harness connector (C15).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool for DTC U0046[88] being set as a current failure. Is a DTC set?

Yes

=>Go to TCM inspection.

No

=>Go to TCCM replacement.

7. TCM inspection

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the TCM harness connector (E7).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool for DTC U0046[88] being set as a current failure. Is a DTC set?

Yes

=>Go to Information module inspection.

No

=>Go to TCM replacement.

8. Information module inspection

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the information module harness connector (C105).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool for DTC U0046[88] being set as a current failure. Is a DTC set?

Yes

=>Go to Powertrain CAN communication circuit inspection.

No

=>Go to Information module replacement.

9. Powertrain CAN communication circuit inspection

1) Inspect the Powertrain CAN communication circuit for the following. Is the result normal?

  • Open circuit or high resistance
  • Short together between circuits
  • Short to battery or short to ignition power supply circuit
  • Short to ground

Yes

=>Go to Central gateway control unit replacement.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

10. ECM replacement

  • Perform programming after replacing the ECM.

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.
