i-stop FUNCTION OPERATES UNDER NO ENGINE-STOP CONDITIONS

DESCRIPTION
•  i-stop function operates even though system is turned off by pressing i-stop OFF switch.
•  i-stop function operates even though vehicle conditions are for non-operation.
•  i-stop function operates frequently while parking vehicle.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
False detection of i-stop function operation conditions
•  False detection of operating i-stop system
―  i-stop OFF switch malfunction (stuck off)
―  Open circuit in wiring harness between i-stop OFF switch terminal I and PCM terminal 1AV
•  False detection of stopped vehicle
―  Vehicle speed signal malfunction
•  ABS wheel-speed sensor malfunction
•  Falsely detects that driver intends to stop vehicle
―  False detection of depressed accelerator pedal
•  APP sensor malfunction
•  False detection of shift lever in neutral position
―  Neutral switch No.1 malfunction
―  Neutral switch No.2 malfunction
―  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:
•  Neutral switch No.1 terminal A—PCM terminal 2AA
•  Neutral switch No.2 terminal A—PCM terminal 1AJ
•  False detection of depressed clutch pedal
―  Clutch stroke sensor malfunction
―  Short to ground in wiring harness between clutch stroke sensor terminal B and PCM terminal 1AS
•  False detection of internal/external vehicle temperature within operable range (−10 to 50 °C {14 to 122 °F})
―  Ambient temperature sensor malfunction (sensor specific malfunction)
―  Short or open circuit in wiring harness between ambient temperature sensor terminal A and BCM terminal 1X
―  Open circuit in wiring harness between ambient temperature sensor terminal B and BCM terminal 1H
•  Falsely detects that climate control unit detects that driver-side air mix door is not in MAX HOT or MAX COLD position even though driver-side air mix door is in MAX HOT or MAX COLD position

Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.

Start the engine.
Verify the i-stop warning light illumination condition when the i-stop OFF switch is pressed.
Does the i-stop warning light illuminate?
Yes
Go to Step 4.
No
Go to the next step.

Inspect the i-stop OFF switch.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the i-stop OFF switch.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness between i-stop OFF switch terminal I and PCM terminal 1AV for a possible open circuit.

Perform the initialization of the steering angle sensor.
Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
Malfunction caused by the steering angle sensor initialization malfunction.
•  Symptom troubleshooting is completed.
No
Go to the next step.
5*
Switch the ignition to ON.
Compare the ambient temperature sensor on the information display with the actual ambient temperature.
Does the ambient temperature on the information display correspond to the actual ambient temperature?
Yes
Go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.

Inspect the ambient temperature sensor.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the ambient temperature sensor.
No
Inspect the following:
•  Short or open circuit in wiring harness between ambient temperature sensor terminal A and BCM terminal 1X
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between ambient temperature sensor terminal B and BCM terminal 1H
Repair or replace the suspected wiring harness.

Inspect the sensor output value from the ABS wheel-speed sensor.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.
No
Go to the next step.
8*
Switch the ignition to ON.
Access the PCM PID CPP using the M-MDS.
Does the CPP PID value change according to the amount the clutch pedal is depressed?
Yes
Go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
9
Inspect the clutch stroke sensor.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the clutch stroke sensor.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness between clutch stroke sensor terminal B and PCM terminal 1AS for a possible short to ground.
10*
Switch the ignition to ON.
Access the following PCM PID using the M-MDS:
•  NEUTRAL_SW1
•  NEUTRAL_SW2
Is the PID values congruent with the shift lever operation?
Yes
Go to Step 12.
No
Go to the next step.

Inspect the PID-related switch in which the malfunction occurred in Step 10.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the applicable switch.
No
Inspect the wiring harness between the following terminals in which the malfunction occurred in Step 10 for a short to ground:
•  Neutral switch No.1 terminal A—PCM terminal 2AA
•  Neutral switch No.2 terminal A—PCM terminal 1AJ
Repair or replace the suspected wiring harness.

Switch the ignition to ON.
Access the BCM PID HOOD_SW using the M-MDS.
Is the HOOD_SW PID value normal?
Yes
Go to Step 14.
No
Go to the next step.
13
Inspect the bonnet latch switch.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the bonnet latch switch.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness between bonnet latch switch terminal A and BCM terminal 1J for a possible short to ground.
14*
Switch the ignition to ON.
Access the following BCM PIDs using the M-MDS:
•  TR/LG_SW
•  DRSW_D
•  DRSW_P
•  DRSW_LR
•  DRSW_RR
Are the PID values congruent with the opening and closing of the doors and liftgate/trunk?
Yes
Go to Step 16.
No
Go to the next step.

Inspect the PID-related switch in which the malfunction occurred in Step 14.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the applicable switch.
No
Inspect the following in which the malfunction occurred in Step 14:
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between door latch switch and BCM
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between liftgate/trunk lid latch switch and BCM
Repair or replace the suspected wiring harness.

Switch the ignition to ON.
Access the SAS control module PID BUCKLE_D using the M-MDS.
Is the BUCKLE_D PID value congruent with the seat belt condition?
Yes
Go to Step 18.
No
Go to the next step.
17
Inspect the driver-side buckle switch.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the driver-side buckle switch.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness between driver-side buckle switch and SAS control module terminal 2U for a possible open circuit.

Switch the ignition to ON.
Access the EHPAS PID STEER_RATE using the M-MDS.
Is the PID value normal?
Yes
Go to Step 20.
No
Perform the initialization of the steering angle sensor and verify the PID values again.
•  If the PID values are normal:
―  Steering angle sensor initialization malfunction. (The symptom troubleshooting is completed.)
•  If the PID values are not normal:
―  Go to the next step.

Inspect the steering angle sensor.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the steering angle sensor.
No
Inspect the wiring harness between the following terminals for a short or open circuit:
•  Steering angle sensor terminal A—BCM terminal 2E
•  Steering angle sensor terminal B—BCM terminal 2H
•  Steering angle sensor terminal C—BCM terminal 2I
•  Steering angle sensor terminal D—BCM terminal 2F
•  Steering angle sensor terminal E—BCM terminal 2D
•  Steering angle sensor terminal F—BCM terminal 2G
Repair or replace the suspected wiring harness.
20*
Idle the engine.
Access the PCM PID BBP using the M-MDS with the brake pedal held depressed while the i-stop function is operating.
Does the BBP PID value remain less than −45 kPa {−0.46 kgf/cm2, −6.5 psi}?
Yes
Go to Step 23.
No
Go to the next step.

Perform the vacuum function inspection for the power brake unit and the vacuum loss inspection.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.
No
Go to the next step.

Inspect the power brake unit vacuum sensor.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the power brake unit vacuum sensor.
No
Inspect the wiring harness between the following terminals for a short or open circuit:
•  Power brake unit vacuum sensor terminal A—PCM terminal 1P
•  Power brake unit vacuum sensor terminal B—PCM terminal 1Q
•  Power brake unit vacuum sensor terminal C—PCM terminal 1N
Repair or replace the suspected wiring harness.

Measure the voltage at the climate control unit terminal 1G when the driver-side temperature setting is MAX HOT and MAX COLD.
Is the voltage normal?
Yes
Replace the PCM.
No
Go to the next step.

Inspect the driver-side air mix actuator.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the driver-side air mix actuator.
No
Inspect the air mix actuator and linkage for sticking.
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

INSPECT THE CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT
•  Inspect the climate control unit.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the climate control unit.
No
Go to the next step.

Verify the test results.
•  If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. (See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSTIC INDEX [MZR 2.0 DISI i-stop].)
•  If a malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform the repair or diagnosis.
―  If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed.
―  If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the PCM. (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 2.0 DISI i-stop].)
